Composite Decking Construction

A fantastic composite decking completed by our expert fitters. Transform your garden area and make it a low-maintenance solution.

Key Features And Benefits Of Composite Decking

  • Durability – Won’t warp, split, or splinter like timber.

  • Weather resistant – Performs well in wet or coastal areas.

  • Low maintenance – Just needs occasional washing (no staining or sealing).

  • Lightweight – Easier to handle than composite or hardwood boards.

  • Design options – Available in a range of colours, wood-grain effects, and finishes.

Planning And Design

Careful planning is essential for your composite decking, and one of the most crucial steps in ensuring the final project is suitable. Our initial survey ensures that all options are covered and any obstacles that may appear can be overcome.

  • Measure the area and plan the deck layout.

  • Decide on board orientation (horizontal, diagonal, picture framing).

  • Check for local planning permissions if applicable.

Substructure

  • PVC decking is usually installed on a timber subframe.

  • Pressure-treated timber joists are common.

  • Ensure proper spacing (typically 12–16 inches apart depending on manufacturer guidelines).

  • Add a weed barrier and gravel base for ground-level decks to prevent moisture build-up.

Deck Board Installation

  • Boards often have hidden fastening systems (clips that slot into grooves).

  • Leave expansion gaps (PVC expands/contracts with temperature changes).

  • Start from one edge and work across the deck, keeping boards aligned.

Finishing Touches

  • Install fascia boards around the deck perimeter.

  • Add edging trim or “picture frame” borders for a polished look.

  • Consider balustrades, steps, or lighting for function and style.
