The Garden is done and dusted. How about a sit down...

Furniture feels like the finishing touch to any home, and the garden (part of the home, or your home from home) is no different.

These days, you’re spoilt for choice. But we can help you narrow it down to what suits you.

Furnishings: Rattan-style furniture.

So let's get down to it.

Or, sit down to it…

Here, we explore a couple of furnishings we have on offer, all available to view in our Garden Furniture section: seats to fit in your outdoor living space.

We go through what some products are made of, how they can be used, and how to look after them.

Maintenance advice, and assembly of products advice is here to help you make informed choices in adding furniture (or any product) to your dream areas. It’s here so you can consider what will suit you and your budget, and its here when you’re ready to invest more.

Plus, don’t forget, at checkout you have multiple ways to pay: including, paying in instalments. *For more information on payment options please view the FAQs below, or check out the membership, which can help you save 5% on a range of our products.

Now, let's look at our sturdy wooden benches, swing-seats, one-man deck chairs, conversation seats, and more.

These wooden seating spaces can:

  1. Stay out in all weathers (though tarpaulin over them is a quick, cheap, and easy way to keep wood from warping).
  2. Be easily cleaned.
  3. Host yourself, your family, and guests – all year round.
  4. Be kept rustic and naturalistic, or…
  5. Be… renewed with a coat of lacquer, varnish, wood protector, or paint (maybe made to look shabby chic?).

However, with all of all that said, timber products are not all made with the same kind of timber. Products made with soft timber or that of a lesser quality require more maintenance. If timber is not pressure-treated or heat-treated, it will need to be regularly lacquered in a surface coating (natural preservatives are available on the market these days). Untreated wood may also need lightly sanding before applying wood protectors.

Conversely, products made with these materials are budget-friendly, come as flat-pack, and have step-by-step instructions alongside, making them easy to assemble.

Then… there are the wooden chairs, benches, tables, seats etc. etc. Made with our top quality timber. Timber which gets pressure-treated and heat-treated on-site; meaning, items go from a mid-range pricing level, and up. These products can come fully assembled, at a cost, but furniture built with top-of-the-range timber is low-maintenance. So, in a way, it is an investment into sustaining your dream outdoor area.

Please note: The timber type used can be marked out; you may find some of this information on our website, on the label’s description (or on the packaging of your product upon purchase), and on request –  given verbally – by our Atkinsons experts.

Or, maybe you fancy seating that's softer?

Why not opt for a sofa, with a traditional woven style, and cushions?

These will:

  1. Bring a warmth to your home from home (like a log cabin, an outhouse, a summerhouse, or your conservatory).
  2. Be brilliant to use, all year round.
  3. Be made to highest quality standards, and, be fire retardant.
  4. Be available in one, two, and three seaters – AND – more.
  5. Be available in sets, complete with a table for your friends, family, and guests (or just you!).

The woven furniture Atkinsons tends to have available is rattan style.

Rattan-woven furniture, once purchased and put in place where you want, is easy to maintain. There’s minimal assembly and you can easily move it again to other spots (trying to catch the last threads of sunlight, if any come): the frames are light-weight, and the cushions are removable.

To upkeep the look of your cushions, machine wash them on a cool 30-degree cycle. This will help prevent dirt and grime seeping its way into them. Any mess will be hard to seep into them either way, many types are showerproof, water and weather resistant (like the frames they’re put upon). If you do get an unfortunate stubborn stain, act fast. Blot it. Don’t rub, wipe, or scrape at it. If that fails, there are plentiful products on the market that deal well with stains. It will be removed, and the furniture you have will be as good as new!

To clean the rattan-woven garden furniture frames, use a clean damp cloth to wipe it over.

For storage, store the cushions indoors when not in use. Alternatively, if the furniture lives in your space that’s your home from home, leave it. It’s not exposed to the elements, it will be fine.

FAQs

Where can I go to get these items?

A range of all of our products are available at each site, and here, in our online space. Please browse the products sections online, or, check out the Showroom Locator section. Then, you’ll find a branch of Atkinsons near you.

Do I need to pay for my chairs, tables (or other products I find) all in one go?

Online, that’s not necessary. At checkout, we offer several payment options, two of which are there to help stagger your payments. This is done through Klarna, or as a pay in three instalments option. If, when visiting our sites, you like something, but it’s out of your price range, follow us on our socials – on Facebook and Instagram. Look out for ex-display items on offer at select sites. On top of that, we have a 12-month membership for only £2.99, and this will save you 5% on numerous products that we sell (please view terms and conditions for details).

Will I get instructions for assembling my furniture?

If your furniture comes flat-packed, you will get step-by-step instructions, you can ask our Atkinsons experts for advice on erecting it, or… it may be that what you buy does not require too much time on your part to assemble it. As above, some of our products require minimal assembly, and a few come ready-made (the material type used in building the furniture frame and pricing will reflect this).

Will the look of these items weather overtime?

Anything made with timber is always more likely to change a bit, in minimal ways, in the shape of it, and in the look of it. To keep timber looking its best, follow the advice online and from our Atkinsons experts. Also, please note before purchase, this is indicated in the area of some of the products’ pages: like this one, where the conservation seat is featured, the description explains what kind of wood it is, and how the timber has already been treated.

Anything made with rattan (or other similar material types) are also fine to keep outside in the spring, summer, and autumn. But, if it rains, and you want extra protection, covering it with tarpaulin, or putting it in an indoor area will help prevent the weathering effect taking hold, keeping your dream nature space alive and well. *Bring cushions indoors in wet weather.*

Can I get recommendations and advice?

Yes. You can get advice and support from the Atkinsons team: you can get it online, catered more to you, during Castleford’s Monday to Friday opening hours. You can also get it in person from the Atkinsons experts at each showrooms, where, they can share their trade and custom-led expertise to you. You can even get advice and envision ideas for your home and garden space in our FREE BROCHURE.

Do the items come with warranty?

Seats, chairs, tables, and other furnishing products come with a manufacturer’s warranty. Timing of the warranty depends upon the product and sometimes the brand. Atkinsons also offer a warranty on some pieces of furniture (as well as other products). Please ask this question upon purchase regarding the terms and conditions. As a general rule, though: It covers any defects to the item in terms of its shape and structure; not: wear and tear over time, accidental/unintentional/physical/criminal damage, or a general dissatisfaction with the product itself.
