6.0m Length
150mm x 47mm (6′ x 2″) Timber decking joist C24 graded planed, pressure treated for a longer life.
C24 timber is a high-grade structural softwood used for load-bearing applications like floor and roof joists and heavy-duty decking subframes. It is stronger, more durable, and has fewer defects than the standard C16 timber commonly used in UK construction.
Key characteristics
- Strength grade: The “C” stands for conifer, while the number “24” signifies a bending strength of 24 Newtons per square millimetre (N/mm²). This means C24 joists can handle greater loads and span longer distances than C16 timber of the same size.
- Appearance and quality: Due to its slower growth rate, which is often a result of being imported from colder climates like Scandinavia, C24 timber typically has a tighter grain and fewer knots. This results in a cleaner, more consistent appearance compared to C16 timber, which may have more visible imperfections.
- Kiln dried: Most C24 timber is kiln-dried to reduce its moisture content to less than 20%. This process increases the timber’s stability and prevents warping, splitting, and shrinking over time.
- Regularised: It is also planed to achieve consistent dimensions and has “eased” (rounded) edges, which makes it easier and safer to handle.
- Treatment: C24 grade is a measure of strength, not durability or treatment. It is available as untreated timber for internal use or as pressure-treated timber for external applications, such as decking joists or raised floors
